On Redistribution of Wealth, Mr. President

"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it." –Thomas Jefferson

It’s just legalized thievery.  People should resist.  If they choose to resist at the ballot box, that’s what you get.  Never mind Jefferson’s endless list of means of resistance.

Calling industry "greed" doesn’t help much.  If greed is what gets you off the couch and makes you do something productive, then good for you.  If nothing gets you off the couch then there you are.

I’m impressed with some of the general contractor types I’ve seen around town, especially the older ones.  These guys are tough and they know how to get things done.  They have fancy houses, sons whom they have taught, and unformed grandchildren who may never learn anything.  Their industry is evident.  Their sons’ industry is evident.  Their grandchildren maybe don’t have any sense of industry yet.

You don’t steal from these people to reward sloth.  Government stimulus programs are not going to help these people.  These people are going to continue to work for themselves, TARP be damned.  These are the people who will build the houses you won’t be able to afford if you don’t get off the couch.
